A maker's mark is a symbol or mark embossed, engraved or otherwise impressed upon a physical work of manufacture to identify its maker. Whereas a hall mark, more broadly, incorporates design characteristics, a maker's mark is nominative in nature.
A well-designed maker's mark is distinctive and memorable. Historically, maker's marks were somewhat rudimentary, but today most maker's marks serve to reinforce the name and brand of the manufacturer.
This web site is under construction, but if you require assistance with the design of a maker's mark, please visit Watts Design. While some maker's marks are capable of attracting common law trademark rights with use, legal expertise in this area may be worthwhile, especially if registration of your mark is desired.
